Frequently Asked questions

Find answers to your queries about Iyengar Yoga, teacher qualifications, props, alignment, and common health concerns.

What kind of props do I need to do Iyengar yoga online?
2 bricks, 1 bolster, 1 blanket, sticky yoga mat. While Iyengar studios have specialized gear, you can usually just use things around your house.
What kind of space do I need at home?
Just enough room to roll out your mat, with a little space to stretch your arms out to the sides. If you can set up near an empty wall or a closed door, even better! We use the wall a lot for balance and support in Iyengar practice.
Is it safe to join an online class if I have an injury?
Yes, but it’s really important to let the teacher know before class begins. The teacher can give you specific modifications so you can practice safely from your own living room.
I’ve never done Iyengar before. Is it hard to follow online?
Actually, it’s one of the best styles to learn online. Because we breakdown asanas and explain exactly where your feet and hands should be, you won’t get lost trying to keep up with a fast-paced flow. You have plenty of time to look at the screen, listen to the instructions, and get the posture right.
Do I have to keep my camera on all the time?
We highly recommend it. The teacher needs to see you to give helpful insights and make sure you’re practicing safely. If you’re having a bad internet day you can turn it off, but you’ll miss out on the personalized feedback.
