Our Story – Guided by the Wisdom of Iyengar Yoga
Sangatreya is a studio project dedicated to the practice, study and teaching of yoga in Iyengar tradition.
We honour the legacy of Sri B.K.S. Iyengar by fostering personal and spiritual growth through the discipline of yoga.
Our name, Sangatreya, is inspired by our teacher, Sri Prashant S. Iyengar, the son of Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar. Sri Prashant Iyengar uses the concept of Sangatreya as an analogy to highlight the vital role of community in yoga practice.
- Shastra Sangha: Focus on the power of collaborative learning, deepening our understanding
- Sat-Sangha: Nurturing positivity and remaining grounded in the quest for inner truth
- Sadhana-Sangha: Uplifting one another’s journeys, inspiring self-improvement and nurturing spiritual discipline on our paths
Why Choose Sangha Traiya
- Personalized Attention: Varun and Anna, our experienced instructors, tailor each session to your unique needs, ensuring individual corrections and adjustments.
- Focus on Alignment: Improve posture, flexibility, and balance with precise instruction and use of props for a safe and effective practice.
- Holistic Growth: Beyond physical fitness, Iyengar Yoga is self-experiential. As Prashant Iyengar says, “If you are looking for a whale, you cannot search for a whale in a pond. You must go to deep waters. “You will go on an inward journey of self-discovery.
- Comprehensive Training: Our instructors undergo years of systematic practice and evaluations to provide safe and effective guidance.

Meet Varun
With a professional background as a Chartered Accountant, my journey into yoga began as I searched for the deeper meaning of life.
I was fortunate to begin my studies under Rajiv and Swati Chanchani, whose precise, insightful teaching laid the foundation for steady, disciplined practice. Their guidance led me to RIMYI in Pune, where I’ve trained as a teacher in the Iyengar tradition and continue to study. I visit RIMYI every year to continue learning. While there, I observe, assist, and participate in regular and remedial classes—experiences that continue to shape my growth as a student and a teacher.
In my teaching, I aim to create a space where the practice is challenging and supportive, and students can explore their potential with confidence and curiosity.
Meet Anna
Began my Iyengar Yoga journey in 2012 in the UK, Bristol at Yogawest , I visited RIMYI for the first time in 2019 and since then i have spent several months each year learning in RIMYI under the Iyengar family which is still continuing through online and yearly visits to the institute.
I have a deep interest in women’s health, and Dr. Geeta S. Iyengar’s work, especially her article “The Practice of Women During the Whole Month,” has had a profound influence on my approach to yoga. Her teachings on aligning practice with the lunar cycle have deeply shaped the way I understand and experience yoga as a woman.
Classes can guide you, but only through personal practice do you begin to understand what this work truly is for you, and only for you.
